Karibuni!

Hello there!

I’m assuming you will be back often to read more of my content. So, why not get to know a little bit more about me through a Q & A of frequently asked questions?

Describe yourself in five words:

  1. Optimistic
  2. Adventurous
  3. Resilient
  4. Funny
  5. Intelligent

What would you like to be known or remembered for?

If I was to describe myself I would say I’m someone that cares about the well being of others. Every time I visit a new city, state or country, I find myself asking questions about the marginalized populations. I’m always looking for ways to learn more about the world around me and look for ways to help improve the lives of the disadvantaged, hence getting my master’s in Social Work. I would like to be remembered as someone who cared about humanity and wanted to positively make a difference.

What’s the best advice you’ve received?

When I was younger and I would get frustrated with my friends, I would go to my mum to explain to her the situation and how angry I was. Most of the time my mother would respond by quoting James 1:19 “be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger.” I later learned that not everyone is naturally quick to listen, but we can train ourselves to be better listeners. Being a good listener means being active, engaging with the speaker an understanding their perspective even if it means we are disagreeing. I was able to learn that when people feel heard they are able to take our own perspective into consideration . By being able to listen it opens the door to greater communication because it shows respect. Everyday I practice to listen with the intention of understanding rather than listening with the intention to respond.

What is the meaning of your name?

Interestingly, I never used to go by my first name, Beth, until I moved to the States. My middle name, Nanjala, means “born during famine.” I think this is why I’m always hungry 😉 … hungry for success!!

If you could have dinner with a celebrity who would it be and why?

MR. EAZI. DON EAZI. THE DON!!! I just love his music so much, he is such a humble person for the type of fame that he has. He does so much to give back to Africa and help out the next upcoming artists. Also, I really think that our personalities are so similar, like we are both energetic and goofy and I love that! Mr. Eazi, if you’re reading this, I love you!
